M'GLASHAN COLLEGE.

ANNUAL BOXING TOURNAMENT. The annual boxing tournament of the John M’Glashan College was held last evening in the college hall. The programme, which comprised 18 bouts of three one-and-a-half-minute rounds, was a particularly lengthy one, but so admirable were the general arrangements and management of the tournament that the contests were completed in a little over two hours. The boxing throughout was of a good standard, and. the majority of the bouts were very < keenly contested, considerable amusement being caused by the exhibition given, by two diminutive but remarkably plucky mos-quito-weights, Lucas and Baker, who fought one another all over the ring with remarkable vim, and without letting-up for an instant. The holder of the championship (which carries with it the Pearson Cup) lost his title to A. M. H. Burnside after a short, sharp bout which lasted only half a minute. Mr V. Parker was referee for the bouts, and he had associated with him as judges Messrs Doug. Paterson and P. Young. The results were as follow; JUNIOR. H. Cameron 7.6 beat R, Watson 7.0. Cameron did most of the leading, and although Watson showed signs of possessing a good left, he failed to use it sufficiently. JUNIOR 11. R. Armstrong 6.4 beat R. Wilson 5.2. This was probably the gamest and most willing bout of the evening. Armstrong proved the" straighter hitter /of the two and won the bout fairly comfortably. INTERMEDIATE I. H. Ramsay 7.10 beat J. Langford 8.12. Obviously more fit than his opponent, Ramsay, although giving away a stone in weight, had the better of the bout throughout and won ,by a comfortable margin of points. A. Baxter, a bye. Final. Ramsay beat A. Baxter. 9.0. Again up against an opponent much heavier than himself, Ramsay 1 gave a good exhibition, and, keeping a beautiful left going, he took the bout fairly comfortably. INTERMEDIATE 11. T. R. Walker 8.3 beat J. M'Lean 7.8. The winner’s superior reach stood him in good stead, and although M'Lean fought pluckily he could not penetrate the defence of his opponent, who scored frequently with ranging left, J. Carson 8.2 heat A. Drake 7.10. Carson did most of the fighting, but although he scored frequently to the body and head his punches carried little weight. Drake fought mostly on the defensive, but occasionally he managed to connect with a nice Idft. Final. Carson beat Walker. Both lads went at it merrily from the gong, but Walker tired badly in the second round, and the referee stopped the fight and awarded the decision to Carson. SENIOR 111. H. L, Smith 9.1 beat J. Ross 10.7. This waa a hard hitting and closely contested bout, ■ Smith was the more experienced fighter of the two. and although Ross had the bettor of things in the .second round, the winner took the first round easily, and rallied well in tho final stages of the last round, which gave him the victory by a narrow margin. R. W, Baker, a bye. Final. Baker 9.5 beat Smith. , Baker did the greater part of the leading, and in the first two rounds established a handy lead on points, SENIOR 11. C. M'Kenzie 9.13 beat A. M‘Q. White 10.6. both lads opened quietly, M Kenzie staged a whirlwind rally in the last round and had his opponent badly rattled with blows and swings, which he sent in from every angle. A, Pannett 10.4 beat A, Stevenson 9,8. Stevenson,.keeping a good left in play, appeared to have the hotter of the first two rounds, but in the last Pannett gradually wore him down and was> awarded the decision, FINAL. Pannett beat M’Kenzie. The winner bored in from the start and administered such severe punishment to his opponent that the referee stopped the fight at the end of the first round, SENIOR I. A. W. Brookfield 11.4 beat O. Moore 10.12. The winner, with the. advantage in weight and reach, was given the decision before the second round was completed. K. L, Anderson 10.7 beat A. Bell 10.6. Bell fought warily in the first round, but in the second he dropped some of his caution, and Anderson, connecting with a heavy right swing, sent him down for the count. PINAL. Anderson beat Brookfield. This was another bout of short duration, Anderson winning on a technical knockout in the first round. SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP. A. M. H. Burnside 10,13 beat W. W. Thomson (holder) 10.13. Burnside sailed in at the stroke of the gong, and with a right to the head sent Thomson down for nine. Thomson rose again, but as he whs obviously unfit to continue the referee awarded the fight to Burnside.
