Craig, and there was a tarr attendance of members, A letter was received from, the Central Vigilance Committee respecting members in arrears. The N.G., in a short, speech, extended a cordial welcome to the P.G.M. (Bro, T.P. Michelle) and P.D.G.M. Bro. B. Longworth, who were visiting the lodge. Brethren were also pleased to note the presence of a very old member of the Rngß—Bvo. Heward. The attendance of the older brethren at the.meetings is much appreciated, as it gives the younger members an opportunity of keeping in touch with those who helped to lay the foundations of the lodge in the early days In acknowledging the toast of “ The District Executive,' Bro. Michelle sketched an outhne of the origin of the Manchester Unity in England 120 years ago, and stressed the point that at the present time, as in the early history of the Order, the spirit of' philanthropy and self-dependence is very necessary for the well being of the community and the country as a whole. No doubt there existed cases of distress among brethren, and it was the duty of lodges to be on the alert for such and bnng them before the executive. The dephty P.G.M., Bro. E. Longworth, also responded. A social hour was later spent U— cards. The annual official visit from sister lodges takes place next lodge' night, when it was decided to hold a Social and dance, the lodge to open at V p.m. The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Princess Mary Lodge was held in the Oddfellows Hall, Forbury Corner, on Tuesday evening. The N.G., Sis. Bond, presided over a very good attendance of members and visiting brethren. An invitation was received to attend a dance at the Loyal Caversbam Lodge on October 8. ,Arrangements were made for a bus tp convey members to Kaitangata on October 4 to attend the anniversary of the Queen ,of Otago Lodge. An official psit to the Loyal Mosgiel Lodge on Tuesday was also noted. Three new members were initiated into the Order, the ceremony being conducted by the officers of the Loyal Caversbam Lodge. One proposition for membership was also received. The meeting then adjourned for a social and dance.

On Thursday, September 25, the monthly meeting of the Loyal Tapanni Lodge Was' held In thb lodgeroom, there being a good attendance of members. The chair was occupied by P.Q. Bro. A. J. Potts, in the absence of N.G. Bro. E, Howat at the district meeting. The business order paper and a considerable amount of correspondence were dealt with One new member was initiated, and one proposition for membership received. The committee appointed to arrange for the annual ball bn October 3 and the church parade on October 5 reported that arrangements were complete. It was decided to pay an official visit to the Loyal Mount Wendon (Waikaia) Lodge at an early date.

The Loyal Tuapeka Pioneer Lodge held its fortnightly meeting at Lawrence on Tuesday last, the N.G. (Bro. Dimmock) presiding. The attendance of officers and members was good. The business paper for the district meeting was received. A letter from the Central Vigilance Committee relative to members'in arrears was responsible for a good deal of discussion. This being quarter night, it was decided to consider the_ matter at a later meeting. The committee set up to carry but the sixty-fifth anniversary, reported progress. members displaying keen enthusiasm over the' proposed function. It is with deep regret that the lodge reports the death since last meeting of Past Permanent Secretary Bro. John Pearson, at Beaumont, aged 91.

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Dunedin Lodge was held in the M.U. Hall, Stuart street, on Thursday evening, when the large attendance of members and visiting brethren was entertained by a concert party of brethren from' tee Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge. The programme of music, song, and story was one of The best given in the lodgeroom for many years, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. P.G. Bro. J. A. Roberts presided, and extended a welcome to the Prince oi Wales brethren, who attended in force, making tee occasion an official visit. The Port Chalmers brethren are to be congratulated on their meritorious performance, and the thanks of the members are due to P.P.G.M. Bro. W. J, Johnston and the members of the party who are ever willing to give their services on the social side of the Order. .The party included a number of . new members, recently transferred from the juvenile branch, whose keenness and enthusiasm is gratifying. Owing to the greater part of; tee evening being devoted to tee entertainment, tee report Of tee delegates to’tee district meeting was held over until nest lodge night. During tec meeting one proposition for membership was received. The toast of “ Visiting Brethren ” was responded to by Cavershatn, Albion, Prince of Wales, Hand and Heart, and tee Past Grands Lodges, An interesting and enjoyable evening concluded with supper, and. a hearty vote of thanks to the visitors. '

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Valley Lodge was held in the Albany Street Hall on Monday evening, when a large muster of brethren was presided over by the N.G., Bro, Q. Macdonald. The meeting opened in mourning in memory of Bros. P.G. Walter Tyrrell and J. D. Dry. A resolution of sympathy was carried, members standing in silence for a few moments. The lodge business, including the initiation of. a new member, was quickly transacted, in order that a programme by the Anderson's Bay Orchestra and Concert Party might bo carried out. For this purpose the lodge was adjourned, and some 200 members and lady friends were accommodated in the large hall. Those present were treated to an excellent selection of songs, recitations, and orchestral numbers, which met with the keen approval of the audience. The orchestra was under the baton of Mr J. Clark, A.T.C.L., who also carried out the duties of accompanist in a very able manner. The thanks of the lodge are due to P.G. Bro, G. Tombs, who carried out the arrangements for the evening. The chair for this occasion was taken by Bro. C. H. Russell, who. at the close, thanked the performers for their effort. Members and friends were afterwards the guests of the lodge at supper. The evening proved a distinct success, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

There was a very_ good attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge, held at Port Chalmers, on evening, the N.G., Bro. J. Clarke, presiding. One candidate was initiated, and a further proposition .for membership received. The live delegates who represented the lodge at the. half-yearly district meeting, gave interesting detailed reports of the proceedings, and were accorded a vote of thanks by the lodge. Appreciative reference was made to' the social functions of the conference, the Palmerston brethren excelling themselves in hospitality, entertaining their visitors. -It was resolved that a letter of thanks and appreciation be forwarded to Permanent Sec. Bro. W. Pittaway, of the Palmerston Lodge, for his efforts in this direction. The N.G. reported having visited a number of city lodges, and reminded members of tbe official visit to the Loyal Mosgiel Lodge on Tuesday nest. The president of the Juvenile Lodge reported on the work of this branch. Reporting on the sick members the Perm. Secy, stated that the sickncss at present was the lightest for some considerable time. On Tuesday evening a successful dance was held by the lodge, the function being well patronised. The N.G., Bro. Clark, officiated as M.C. On Saturday, the Past Grands Lodge, will be the guest of the Prince of Wales Lodge.
