ARBITRATION COURT.
Two decisions have been given by the Arbitration. Court in cases heard by it at its recent sitting in Dunedin. PAPER MILLS EMPLOYEES. The only matters referred to the court related to hours and wages. These the court has settled on the lines of the expired award, with an additional item in the classification providing for glazers. In other respects the award follows the recommendations of the Conciliation Council, which the parties agreed to aecept 4 BUILDERS’ LABOURERS. The only clauses referred to the court related to wages and hours. These the court has settled. In other respects the award follows the recommendations of the Conciliation Council which the parties agreed to accept. The hours of work settled by the court are as under;—(a) A week’s work shall not exceed 44 hours. Eight hours per day shall be worked on five days of the week, between tbe hours of 7.30 a.m. and 5 p.m., and four hours on Saturday, commencing at 8 a.m. and finishing at noon, (b) Where it is necessary to prepare material for work before the ordinary hours of commencing work the employer may employ workers to do such necessary work at the ordinary rate of pay for not more than half an hour before the ordinary time for commencing work. The clause relating to rates of wages is as under; The following shall be the minimum wages to be paid to the several classes of workers hereinafter specified, that is'to say: (a) Labourers in charge of derricks, cranes, or concrete-mixers, or employed in hod-carrying, scaffolding, or wheeling bricks on scaffold. Is lid per hour, (b) All other labourers employed in connection with building operations. Is XOd per hour.
