ORKNEY AND SHETLAND SOCIETY.
MONTHLY SOCIAL. f _ The monthly social of the Orkney and* Shetland Society was held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday evening, the president (Mr J. B. Stout) presiding over a good attendance qf members and friends. Be-, fore the social portion of the evening waa commenced the president announced that' the society intended to hold a concert and dance on Saturdayy October 4, in aid of the Gilbert Bain Hospital, Lerwick, Shetland, Islands. The programme for the evening waa supplied by Miss Jimsie Fraser s party, the following items being gresented: —Songs—Mesdamee Oliver and L. Bradley, Messrs B. Freeman, Donald .Trench, and R. Currie; quartet—Mr and Mrs Mahany, Mr Mahany, run., and Mr Dalziel; pianoforte solo, Mr Kersey; bagpipe duo,. Pipers George and John Yardley; recitations, Mrs Murray and Master Harold Davidson; Irish hornpipe. Misses Netty Pullar and Jean Freeman;' character dance. Miss Norma Williams:, seann truibhais, Misses Irene Jones and Nancy Ohrjohton; sailors’ hornpipe,— Misses E. Williams, Pullar, and Free-' man; dog dance, Misa Norma Williams;': Irish jig, Miss E. Williams. The accompaniments were played by Mr Axel Newton,
