BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS. 1 (From Oub Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, September 30. LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION, The annual meeting of the South Otago Lawn Tennis- Association, held at Kaitangata, was attended -by delegates from three clubs only, viz., Kai tangata, Balcmtha, and Clinton. The balance sheet, showing a credit of £7 7s, was adopted, ihe annual report' stated that the membership last season had been disappoint-’ mg, the only clubs to 1 affiliate being Milton, Balclutha, Kaitangata, and Clinton. It was suggested that the smaller clubs be approached again, offering them membership at a reduced fee, and also a programme "of C Grade matches. It was suggested that the association season open with a tournament to be played at Balclutha and Kaitangata. It was decided that Kaitangata be the headquarters of the association during the coming season. The following were appointed a selection committee:—Messrs W. Sumpter (Toko), E. Barnett (Clutha), and R. Scott (Kaitangata), It was resolved to play two rounds .in the A and B Grades, matches to commence on October 25, and to circularise the smaller'clubs in regard to running a C Grade competition. WHEAT POOL. About _2O wheatgrowers attended a meeting in the Greenfield Hall on Saturday night to listen to an address by .Mr M Pherson, manager of the wheat pool,’ Christchurch, who went very fully into the operations of the pool, and particularly the marketing system. Most of the wheatgrowers of the Clutha Valley were already affiliated, but there were a few exceptions, and some of the latter, after hearing Mr M’Pherson’s lucid speech, gladly joined up. / Mr M'Pherson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. HORSE SALE. - , The Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association held a successful sale pf horses at tue corporation yards yesterday afternoon. Ihe entry of draughts was not large but of fair quality, ’lop price was realised by a four-year-old mare (£3B a , er K ooc h useful sorts sold at £3G and £34 10s. Two unbroken ponies •brought £7 each. ‘ BOROUGH. JUBILEE. At a meeting of the Borough Jubilee Association last night the Mayor presided over a small attendance. The manager, 4YA, Dimedin, wrote that he was falling in with the arrangements made for broadcasting the concert. It was decided to include in the invitations to the banquet Mr Samuel Green, c to*?? 11 (ft Balclutha ratepayer ot 1871, probably the only one surviving), also representatives of the Otanomomo River Board, South Otago Freezing Company, and the A; and P, Society, It was left to the Rev. Leslie Groves (who was present) to arrange for a combined church service on the Sunday afternoon, to be followed by the laying of a wreath on the soldiers’ memorial. , Only two tenders were received for 'the printing of the jubilee booklet.—Mr Watt moved that the Dunedin ' tender (the lowest) be accepted.—Mr Walter seconded.—Mr Kean moved -as an amendment that the local, tender be. accepted.— The amendment was seconded by Mr Gormack and carried.
