RELIEF OF DISTRESS.
ACTIVITIES OF MAYOR’S DEPOT. During the past four weeks the mm. bcr of applicants for relief enrolled upon the books of the Mayor’s unemployment relief depot in Dowling street has increased from 379 to 516, 40 new cases having been brought before the depot officials during the past week alone. • Grocery orders numbering 247, and meat orders for 230-applicants wore issued last week, the estimated number of dependents assisted reaching approximately 1000. The following donations to the depot are acknowledged with thanks;—Rite, cakes and sandwiches; Wcotton’s, bread’ Laurenson and Co., bread; W. Wood, bread; A. Congalton, cakes: J. Cormlofc (Waipori), side mutton; J. T. Jarvis, meat; Waipahi Ladies’ Guild, parcel clothing; Amalgamated Society of Rail- ' way Servants (Hillside), order for good*, to the value of C 6 18*.
