AMERICAN ATHLETES.

VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. A cable message received last week from Palo Alto (California) advised that Eric Krenz, Stanford University field sports champion and holder of the world's discus throw record, stated that he had accepted an invitation to pick a track and field team with which to begin* a tour of New Zealand about December 15. If Krenz has received an invitation it has not been extended to him by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association (says the Wellington Post). Invitations to American athletes from the athletic authorities in the Dominion are always made through New Zealand’s. American representative, Mr C. G. Krogness, of San Francisco. In recent negotiations between the N.Z.A.A.A. and Mr Krogness, Krenz was mentioned as a likely athlete for a visit to New Zealand, but the N.Z.A.A.A. issued an invitation through Mr Krogness to George Simpson (sprinter) and George Bullwinkle (middle-distance and mile runner) to come to New Zealand next track season, and on Friday morning the secretary of the Athletic Council (Mr L. A. Tracy) advised the receipt of a reply from America.

Mr Krogness cabled as follows; “ Bullwinkle in Europe. Expected to attend Pittsburgh championships August 24. Will invite Simpson and Bullwinkle then. Rothert available for tour.” Harlow Rothert is a team mate of Krenz. He is a 'good man with the discus, and is the holder of the American intercollegiate record for shot-putting with a putt of 50ft Sin.
