OVERSEAS PATRIOTIC LEAGUE
A meeting of the executive' of the Overseas Patriotic League was held in Mr V. E. D. Thomson's board room on Wednesday afternoon. The chairman of the league {Mr H. L. Taplcy) presided. A farewell letter was received from Mr ErL Rice, assistant secretary of the Overseas League, London, prior to his departure from Australia for London at the conclusion of his world’s tour. He wished the Dunedin branch of the league all success in the future. A number of letters were also received' from the Auckland branch of the league, with a view of inaugurating a committee of business men in connection with the Overseas League, with the prospect of increasing trade within the British Empire. Arrangements in connection with the celebrations of Empire Day—the national day of the Overseas League throughout the world—were discussed. It was decided that a patriotic function should he held in the Returned Soldiers’ Club Room, the Imperial address to be given by the Rev. W. Hardy-Johnson and the loyal resolution be moved by Mr D. E. Theomin. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr F, W. Knight for his arrangements in connection with Anzac Day, and to Mr V, E. D. Thomson, for his valuable services to the league.
