AMATEUR SWIMMING.

OTAGO CENTRE MEETING. A meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre was held last night. Mr J2 q James was in the chair, and there were present Messrs W. Buckland, V. Fletcher, D. Bannatyno, D. Thomson, and E C Isaacs. ’ A letter was received from the secretary °£ the New Zealand Swimming Council stating that no information had yet been received regarding the dives set down for the Empire Games, but that Mr 5 • Coira, of Wellington, was now making inquiries and would let the centre know as soon, as he could find out.—The chairman said that this was a matter for the centre, and he failed to see why it had not taken action.—-Mr Fletcher said that Mr .Coira had been appointed by the annual meeting of delegates to gain information as to the dives for the Olympic Games.—Mr Thomson pointed out that when the conference was held the question of sending a representative to the Empire Games had not arisen, and he could not see why the New Zealand Council had delegated this duty to Mr Coira. It was essentially the council’s duty and he considered that this should be pointed out to that body. He would move inthat direction. — ihe motion was seconded by Mr Buckland and carried. A letter was received from the secretary of the Dunedin Swimming Club, suggesting that ,1s no prizes would be give'll at the forthcoming Empire Games carnival, a prize might be given to the competator gaining the greatest number of points,—lt was decided to fall in with the Dunedin Club s suggestion, and to give a medal for the .competitor cainiiu? the greatest number of points in individual events (novelty events excepted) and that three points be allotted for a nrst. place, two for a second, and one for a third.
