The Prime Minister, in announcing that an election would be held this year, suggested that he and the Conservative leader should meet to arrange that the business of the session should be brought “ to an orderly and speedy conclusion.” AMENDMENT TO THE BUDGET. OTTAWA, May 6. The Conservative leader (Mr Bennett) to-day moved an amendment to the Budget declaring: “That while this House welcomes and approves of every measure that will afford the Canadian agricultural industry and Labour an equal opportunity for fair competition and development of the rich and varied natural resources of the dominion, and that will provide an extension of interempire trade by mutually advantageous preferences, with due regard to the interests of the consumers, •if opinion that the proposals submitted by the Minister of Finance are in several important respects so completely at variance with the policies of if® as heretofore declared, tuat the Administration, having lost the confidence of the country, cannot safely be entrusted with *he direction, of the fiscal policy of Canada-nor of the "carrying into effect of the proposals to which it has heretofore been opposed, and which are deceptive and fail to estimate the financial results of their operations, anu which have created distrust of and conte mu* * or re I )resentaf; ive institutions.” The Prime Minister (Mr Mackenzie Ning) announced that a general election will be held this year at the earliest possible moment. 1
