The paper making industry has been firmly established in New Zealand for upwards of half a century at Mataura and Dunedin, and the manufacture has assumed a very considerable volume, and is still growing. At the southern town kraft manufacture under, the most modern conditions proceeds day and night without iriterrup tion except on Sundays, to supply the needs of the community from North Cape to Bluff. In addition the company conducts extensive bag factories at Woodhaugh and Mataura, and has latterly embarked on the_ manufacture of ereped paper for various purposes. Most of the paper serviettes now used in the Dominion are manufactured at the Woodhaugh factory The New' Zealand Company is now extensively engaged in afforestation for its own purposes An area of land has been purchased some three miles from the mills at Mataura. and portion of this has already been planted with pinus radiata
