PALMERSTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, March 5. RUGBY FOOTBALL. Palmerston met Waikouaiti at Palmerston on Saturday - The day was ideal for football, and by the attendance it appears that more interest is going to be. taken m football this season than last. The spectators were given' an exhibition of fast, open football, ouch as has seldom i here. After about 10 minutes* play Palmerston, which had been defending up to this time, shifted play to Waikouaiti territory, and from a pretty passing rush, Morrison cut in nicely and scored for Palmerston. The try was not converted. Some fast play followed, and Palmerston had again worked its way to • • ouiuti s goal line, where, through an l?‘ r r * n £ einent * Waikouaiti was penalised. P, Gordon had no difficulty in placing a goal. Waikouaiti then attacked, and through a miskick by a Palmerston back, found the opposing backs out of position. The Waikouaiti wing three-quarter fielded the ball, and scored at the corner. Ward failed to convert. The half time score was: Palmerston 6 points, Waikouaiti 3 points. Upon resuming both sides livened up, and through a miskick by a Palmerston back, Waikouaiti scored its second try, which Was unconverted. Some hard and fast play followed, and m quick succession tries were scored for Palmerston by P. Gordon, G. Morrison, and S. Penny, none being converted. The final score was: Palmerston 15, Waikouaiti 6. Mr Baxter ably controlled the game. ■ -As a curtain-raiser to the senior match Waikouaiti juniors played Palmerston juniors, and after a fast and open game Palmerston Won by 11 points to nil.
