MONTHLY. MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taieri River Trust was held yesterday at MosgieJ. Mr T. M. Ball presided, and .Messrs Walter Blackie, R. A, Kempshell, Andrew Moore, F. Johnson, J. M’Kenzie, Lyall, and R. T. Sadd were also present. ) CORRESPONDENCE. Mr J. M, 'Reid (Outram) asked the trust to clean out the* ditch running alongside his property from “A” drain to ms house. He would assist in . the ‘ work.— Works committee and inspector to inspect arid' report at next meeting. Mr' Richard Dotting (North-East Valley) wrote regarding the fence erected on the bank of the drain next to his farm at Henley. The trust, ■in cleaning the drain, had partly covered the wires with debris from' the drain, and cattle found no difficulty in crossing oyerthe fence.— Referred to Works Committee with power to actl A. Wilson (Henley) wrote regarding a refund of a portion of his rates on 2J acres.—The secretary explained that he had written to Mr Wilson that the area would be altered on the rate book, but as the trust had mot been advised'of the sale of the 2J acres no remittance could be made in respect of the account.—The secretary, was asked to inquire into the position _and report to next meeting. i The district, engineer. Public Works Department, wrote in respect to a petition from: Messrs Lyders and others as follows: —“The department considers that no action is necessary, and that the pumps will cope with the water as fast as it can gravitate towards them. The conditions uull be much improved from those which obtained previously. The stoppage of the pumps through power failure is a very remote contingency, for which no responsibility can be placed on the department' or the trsut.’—Received and formally recorded. , i . Mr _ A. Gillespie, Momona, wrote pointing out the need for a stop bank across the “cut" at its junction with Duck Creek. The Controller and Auditor-general wrote regarding an allowance to the chairman. who had acted as secretary to the hoard for a period after the death of the late secretary. He asked that the chairman mentioned be advised that the salary paid should be refunded. GENERAL. It was decided to appoint a Works Committee to deal with the work in hand luring each month. .
