CHARGE OF ASSAULT.
DISPUTE ON SHIPBOARD. ACCUSED PRODUCES RAZOR. (Per United Pees? Association.) WELLINGTON, April 1. . Arthur Caddy, alias Alley, who was yesterday sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for embezzling ship’s stores, was charged with assaulting Bert Hoare. a member of the crew of the Raranga. Complainant was helping a constable to round up members of the crew, and .met Caddy, who attached him in the street and on the wharf. Later he came up behind him on the ship with on open razor. Caddy, in his defence, told a story of a reign of terror instituted by Hoare and two others. He said these men attacked him. and he got a razor to protect himself. The magistrate said he did not attach much importance to the actual fight, but the getting of a razor was a serious matter. He sentenced Caddy 'to a month in addition to the previous sentence.
