{Fbom Odb Own Correspondent-) TAPANUI, April 1. RUGBY FOOTBALL. tfThe annual meeting of the Tapanui Football Club was held on I'riday evening, when the president (Mr J- D. Edgar) presided over a very good attendance of members. \ , , . . The annual report and balance sheet, which showed the club to be in a flourishing condition, having a credit balance ot f 22 Os 7U, was presented to the meeting. The president, in moving the adoption or the report and balance sheet, congratulated the dub on its sound position. He also congratulated the players on winning both the senior and junior competitions, and added that by sticking together, training, and obeying instructions he saw nothing but prosperity in store for the club In concluding, he wished to thank Mr O. L. Munyard for his services to the club, and to say that it was largely through his efforts in collecting honorary members’ subscriptions and donations that the club was ia such a good unanciai P °Mr l °W. B. Naylor seconded the motion, 'and added that the club was in a flourishing condition with bright prospects tor the ensuing season.The motion was carried. C’ Cameron; club captain, Mr 0 L. Mnnvard- Selection Committee —Mr J._ Edgar and captain of the first fifteen; juniors, Mr E. Arnold and captain of team. After a little discussion it was agreed that all players pay into the insurance fund Is per week towards the clubs injured players’ fund, the same as m former were fixed at 7s Bd for seniors, 5s for juniors, and 5s for honorary members. , , The president asked Mr Naylor to address the meeting on sub-union matters.— Mr Naylor said that, as president of the sub-union, he did not have as free a hand as he would have liked. The year started off with rather strained relations, but he was pleased to say that this difficulty was overcome, and the members of tne union were then a very happy family. A proposal at the annual meeting held recently that delegatee representing junior dubs should have one vote only in matters appertaining to senior football was lost. The junior clubs’ delegates stared that'they were there in the interests of football, and if they did not have full voting powers they would abstain from attending the union meetings, ihe speaker stated that the position from the senior clube’ point of view was very satisfactory. The finances of the sub-union were in a healthy position, and in the opinion of the speaker, provided that the ’voting powers of junior clubs delegates was overcome, the sub-union, acting in the interests of Rugby football in the West Otago District, must prosper. CLEARING SALE AT VVAIKOIKOI. On Friday Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., in conjunction with Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., held a cl eariue sale on behalf of the executors ot the late J. irCall. There was a good attendance of district farmers, and a satisfactory clearance was made. The following were the principal sales:—s2 two-tooth ewes. 30s 6d; 62 four-tooth ewes, 245; 77 six-tooth ewes, 24s 6d: 60 eight-tooth ewes, 20s; 131 ewe lambs, 17s 2d; 108 wether lambs. 18s 3d, fat and forward; 46 f. and f. ewes, 14s 9d; 5 Romney rams, to 4* guineas; draught horses, to £2B. RATEPAYERS’ POLL. Very little interest was shown in the poll on a proposal to close the cow paddock on the borough -commonage. Out of 209 ratepayers on the roll only 48 recorded their votes, which resulted in the proposal to close the padded: being carried by eight votes. M.U.1.0.0.F. The monthly meeting of the Loyal Tapanui Lodge was held on Thursday evening. N.G. Bro. R, Kirk occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members The correspondence was dealt with, and the usual routine business transacted. One new member was pro posed. A committee was elected to arrange for social even mgs during the winter months, P.S. Bro E. Arnold and P.G. Bro J. Mercer, who represented the local lodge at the district meeting and jubilee celebrations at Mosgiei, gave an interesting report on their visit, and were accorded a vole of thank- Tin ad iourned summoned meeting was then opened, and the auditor’s_ report an. mi.■nice sheet submitted. The report disclosed that during the year 1029 the lodge hud paid £449 9s 8d in sick pay, £OO in funeral allowances, and £3O in maternity claims.
