OVERSEAS TELEPHONY

USE OF STATONS

A COMPANY’S COMPLAINT,

(United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, March 1. (Received March 2, at, 5.5 p.m.) In a letter to Mr Ramsay MacDonald regretting the Government’s decision not to , use the company’s stations for overseas telephony, the Imperial International Communications Company appeals for a re-examination of the whole question by a Select Committee.

The company points out that the Wireless cable conference, which was appointed at the instance of Canada and Australia in 1928, recommended that the Post Office should agree with the company on the terms upon which the company’s stations could be used by the telephony company, and contends that if it is to be exposed to competition by overseas telephony services, in which ■■ is not allowed to participate, a blow will be struck at the whole process of rationalisation of the industry. The company reiterates its willingness to abide by the working of a comparison between its system and the Post Office’s system between British South Africa with Canada or Indian and Australia as soon as the necessary equipment is provided. It also urges that in the interests of the efficiency of Empire communications and in justice to the investors who have shown a belief in the rationalisation of Imperial communications, the evidence submitted to the Cabinet Committee should he published and further inquiry held.
