ALPINE CLIMBING.
SAFETY OF TOURISTS. PROPOSALS BEFORE MINISTER. (Peb United Press Association.! WELLINGTON, February 28. In reply to a question as to what the Alpine Club is doing in reference to taking the necessary steps to protect tourists in the alpine regions, Mr Harper (president of the dub) said that a scheme based on the Swiss practice had been put forward officially, but the Govoinment authorities had done nothin", ihe club felt it was such an urgent matter that it was again pressing for reform, and the Minister in charge now had proposals under definite consideration. ■ The question would he piossed by the club vigorously, as at present the want of system was neither tan to the guides nor safe for tourists.
