WEATHER SUMMARY.

RAINFALL AND TEMPERATURE. FIGURES FOR FEBRUARY. The records taken on the self-recording instruments at the Otago Daily Times office show that the rainfall for February in Dunedin has been slight, compared with that for the same month in 1926, 1927, and 1928. It is a little greater than that for February of last year, when 1.46 in was recorded compared with .67in for the past month. The heaviest fall during the month was on February 16, when 1.27 in of rain fell. Other than this, no fall greater, than .21in, which was experienced on the 23rd, hae been recorded. The temperatures during the past month hare not been high despite the generally satisfactory weather conditions. ■ The highest temperature recorded was 86 degrees in the shade at noon on the 13th. On the 2nd and the Bth the maximum temperature was 82 degrees, and on the 7th the thermometer reached 80 degrees. The previous highest temperature this season was 89 degrees, registered on January 23. Compared with January, the past month’s sunshine has been much greater, the total number of hours’ sunshine recorded on the sundial on the roof of the Daily Times building being 2191 hours. The total for January was 1771 hours. The greatest recording of sunshine was on the 2nd, when 14 hours’ unbroken sunshine were registered. Over 12 hours of sunshine were recorded on February 2,6, 9, 12, 15, and 27. There was only one day, the 23rd, on which the .sun’s rays failed to break through at all. The average maximum temperature for the month was 72 degrees. Fairly warm days were experienced on several occasions—B6 degrees on February 23, 82 degrees on February 2 and 8, and over 70 degrees on February 1,3, 4,7, 11, 12, 14 15, 16, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25. The lowest maximum temperature for the month was registered on February 17, when the thermometer did not rise higher than 57 degrees. The average minimum temperature was 53 degrees. The highest minimum recorded during the month was 60 degrees on the 14th and 24th, and the lowest ligure was 45 degrees, which was registered on February 21. The average minimum temperature for January was 48 degrees.

For the greater part of February, the barometer has been high, the greatest pressure recorded being registered on February 9, when the barometer stood at 30.34 at midnight. On the morning of February 14, the reading was 30.10, but during the nest 40 hours it dropped to 29.70, which was one of the lowest readings of the month. A similar drop, though more severe, was experienced in the 40- hours between 8 a.m. on February 22 and midnight on the following day, when the barometer dropped from 30.02 to 29.40, the latter figure being the lowest pressure registered. On the first day of the month the barometer was fairly high, 30.08 being the reading at midnight.- Pressure fell a little on the 4th, but improved again soon, and from the Gth to the 14th the barometer was high and fairly steady. It fell again on the next two days, but was up to 30.15 on the 17th. On the 22nd and 23rd, it fell, but it rose again during the last five days .of the month. It stood at 30.15 on the morning of the last day of the month, and was then rising.
