INVERCARGILL, February 26. For being in possession of liquor on which no duty had been paid, Peter M'Eae was to-day fined £2OO by Mr B. C. Levvey, S.M., who said that if any more such eases came before him he would consider exercising hia powers to sentence the offenders to imprisonment. The Collector of* Customs stated that in spite of numerous prosecutions within the past four years the distilling of illicit liquor was still carried on in Southland. The , liquor contained a large percentage of fusel oil, which had deleterious effects.
