A WAR IN PROGRESS. ATTEMPT TO RAISE PRICES, (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 25. (Received Feb. 25, at- 5.5 p.m.) Sydney people have been interested in a little newspaper war winch is in progress in the city. Associated Newspapers, Ltd., which lately obtained con- ./ trol of a number of publications, including the' Sun, the News, the Guardian, and the Telegraph desired to raise the price of daily journals from one penny . \ to three-halfpence, and approached the Morning Herald to join in the uplift of prices, but the Herald refused. An, appeal was “then made to the newsagents . not to handle, without the permission of Associated Newspapers, any daily publication selling at less than three-half-pence per copy. Negotiations ended with a conference of newsagents, which Cadopted ■ unanimously a resolution" to handle all newspapers at the prices-at which they are published.. The public is awaiting with interest the next move of the Associated Newspapers.
