RIFLE SHOOTING.

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB, On Saturday afternoon the Dunedin , Defence Rifle Club fired a competition', which will count for tile club’s champion* ship and Murray, trophy, and for tile range prise presented by Rifleman D. ,C. Jones, the conditions were 10' shots (two optional sighters) each at 500 and COO yards. There was an attendance of 18. The afternoon waa fine, but varying light and wind made shooting difficult. < Rifleman W. Harty headed the . dry’s ' aggregate With_B9. He was also highest at 600 yards with 44, and wins tiie range prize for 600 yards. Deputy President J. T. Gillen was top at 500 yards, and vrins the range prise fop that distance. KAITANCrATA DEFENCE CLUB. % The Eaitangata ■ Defence Rifle Club ' fired the first stage of the Lee Cup competition on Saturday, 11 members being present. A cold east wind, fishtailing slightly, spoiled some of the scores though J. Frazer notched 33 at 500 yards, while at 600 yards R. Kitto, J. Whitelaw, and J. Frazer, all scored 32.' Frazer finished with > a low magpie, loosing a point on his sigh ter, which was an inner. With four Lee Cup shoots gone, J. .Whitelaw leads with 240., J. Mackie (243), J. .H. Frazer (242), R. M'Crostie, R.’ Kitto. F. Carson, and M. Brown (241) are the most prominent among the rest. For the championship, which counts for the' Lee Cup, J, H. Frazer now leads with 332, W. Oliver (328) being next. J. Whitelaw occupies third place with 318, F. Carson (317), R. M'Crostie (316), J. Mackie and M. Brown (312 each), and R. Kitto (310) being best of the others.' Next Saturday the second stage of the second competition will be fired, the conditions being seven shots at 300 yards and 000 yards.'

TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB. On Saturday afternoon the Timaru Defence Rifle Club held the ninth shoot of the season on the Temuka range. The day was fine overhead, but the wind was very troublesome at times, and the general shooting was not quite up to' the standard, though odd shoots, were very good. The conditions for the day were seven shots at 500 yards, seven at 600 yards, and then 10 at 600 yards. Jones got a very nice 33 at 500 yards, being top scorer at that range. W. Duncan and P. Foden each got 32. Jones’s board read 5,5, 5,4, 4,5, 5—33. The first seven at 000 yards produced no good scores. D. Louden was the only one to Kct 31 in the 10 shots at 800 yard*. W. Jones was again on top with 45, and W. R. Grant was second with 44. The gold rifle was won this week by Vice-president W. E, Jones, Following are the scores:-
