AQUATICS.

PORT CHALMERS YACHT CLUB. The Port Chalmers Yacht and Motor Boat Club held its first series of races for the season on Saturday afternoon on the club’s course on the lower bar-, hour. The yacht race was started in a fair wind, which increased in power with the flood tide. The entry of the new six-metre yacht Dawn aroused considerable enthusiasm, as she again met the first-class yacht Tucana in competition. Tucana was first to cross the line at the start. She maintained the lead 1 for some distance, and was then passed by Dawn, which led to the finish. Tucana and Dawn were on the scratch mark, and the new boat won by over a minute and a-half. Minnow and Heather were well sailed by their respective skippers Miti had the misfortune to carry away some of her gear in the second round, and had to be towed back to Port Chalmers. The motor race was keenly contested, and the usual method of handicapping was again successful, only a few seconds separating the first and hast boats, while the first three boats were separated by but three seconds. All the visiting boat owners were requested to go over the course to enable the hand!* cappers to obtain an idea of the speed of the boats. The following are the results:— YACHT RACE. The newly-formed Tomahawk Boating Club held the fifth and sixth races for schoolboys on the Tomahawk Lagoon on Saturday morning. Most of the boys showed good form. The following are the results:— Fifth Race (12 starters). —D. Thomson (Tomahawk School) I, D. Wheeler (Kaikorai School) 2, S. Phillips (Albany Street School) 3. Sixth Race (14 starters). —Dan Wheeler (Kaikorai School) 1, Bruce Winefield (Tomahawk School) 2, J. Anderson (St. Clair School) 3.
