For.our readers in the backblocks, the following may be useful. You can prepare night lights that may be carried from room to room without smiling grease, for a fraction of the cost of the bought variety thus:—Take ' an ordinary candle or the odds and ends of burnt-down candles and melt the tallow m . an a d . tin * Remove any pieces of old wick floating on the surface, and run the tallow into a number of small empty mußtard tins, to a thickness of threpquarters of an inch. As the tallow is setting, place a wax vesta match in the centre of each to form a wick, allowing the end to protrude a quarter of an inch above the night light. Now run a thin knife round the edges shave it free from the mould and die light is ready for use. An excellent plan is to place half an inch of moistened earth in the bottom of the saucer and set the light on top o; j, The larfch1 arfch to-ktß the place of water and keeps the tallow cool; it is more convenient, too, as the light may be carried about without. danger of spilline the water. "
