When Lord and Lady Aberdeen celebrated their silver wedding at “Tarland Lodge” at Cromar on Deeside, not far from Balmoral Castle, the Highland home of the sovereign in the early years of the century, they had just returned from a successful term of office in Canada, where Lord Aberdeen wsu Governor-General. It was a stranger incident then that the postmaster, who received the hundreds of congratulatory telegrams and cables which the titled pair received from all over the world, should have been a New Zealander. So pleased was Lord Aberdeen with the way the work had been bandied at the post office that day that a substantial gift was the reward. For many Christmases since then, long after the postmaster had returned to hia native country, has some recognition come from “ Cromar House,” the present residence of the Aberdeens. This Christmas a special gift has come to Stanley Bay, Auckland (says the Star), to the former postmaster, of a very fine sketch drawn by Lady Aberdeen of the ‘“Howe of . Cromar ” and “ Dark Lochnagar,” from a distant hill in June. During recent times, including the past year. Lord and Lady Aberdeen have entertained many Aucklanders at their new mansion house at Tarland. They are very fond of recalling a visit they paid to this city in their early married years. Lady Aberdeen tells how, when Lord Aberdeen went on a tour of the Dominion, she went to spend a holiday at Waiwera, where her health was fully recuperated.
