FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

MANCHESTER UNITY. The N.G., Bro. J. B. Gray, presided over a good attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Milton Lodge. A cordial welcome was extended to P.P.G.M. Bro. W. J. Johnston (District Executive) and a number of visiting brethren from various city and suburban lodges. An invitation was received to attend a social function at the Loyal Kaitaugata Lodge, and it was decided to pay an official visit to the Loyal Victoria Lodge at its next meeting. P.G. Bro. J. Taylor and the N.G. reported attending the memorial service at the Court Bruc.i (A.0.F.) Lodge on the occasion of the unveiling of a memorial tablet to the late Bro. J. Dickson. The balance sheet of the Milton F.S. Dispensary was read by the secretary, Bro. Eausome, and disclosed a satisfactory position. Bros, Taylor and Kirby were re-elected as delegates'to represent the lodge on the Dispensary Board. Nominations of officers were received, the election and installation to be held next lodge night. The toast of the D.E. was responded to by P.P.G.M. Bro. Johnstqn, members of Prince of Wales, Caversham, Mosgiel, and Loyal Victoria Lodges acknowledging the toast of visiting brethren. The lodge closed with the uusual formalities, after which a successful social and dance was held.

The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Toko Juvenile Lodge drew a good attendance of members, a number of adult brethren being also present. N.G. presided, and extended a welcome to four members of the Juvenile Council, and P.P.G.M. Bro. W. J. Johnston, representing the District Executive. The half-yearly election of officers was Held, and resulted as follows: —N.G., Bro. H. Coutts; V.G., Bro. W. Kennedy; G.M., Bro. M. Scott; E.S.. Bro. Wells; warden, Bro. Adams; guardian, Bro. McDonald; conductor, Bro. B. Kirby. The installation was conducted by the president of the Juvenile Council, Bro. G. Irving, assisted by visiting officers. Bros. B. Hay (Loyal Caversham) and W. J. Johnston (Prince of Wales) conveyed fraternal greetings from their respective lodges. Bro. Heads was the winner of the trophy for' the highest points in the winter sports, and received a cricket bat, the president making the presentation. Bro. Whytock, of the senior lodge, responded to the visitors’ toast. Sister J. M’Kinney (Princess Victoria) responding on behalf of the ladies' lodge.

On Monday evening the P.G.M., Bro. P. Young, P.P.G.M. Bro. J. Johnston, and a number of members of the Loyal Valley, Caversham, Albion, and Mosgiel Lodges visited the Loyal Outram Lodge for the purpose of conducting the installation of officers, and were cordially welcomed by the members of the local lodge. The N.G., Bro. D. Ashley, presided over a good attendance of members, and ex pressed appreciation of the attendance of the district officers and visiting brethren. The annual summoned meeting was held, the chief business being the election of officers for the ensuing half-year. The F.G.M., with the assistance of visiting officers, then installed the following:—N.G., Bro, H. Walker; V.G., Bro. J. M'Kenzie; G.M., Bro. l>. Ashley; E.S., Bro. H. Shrimpton; warden, Bro L. Hore; guardian, Bro. W. Marshall. The newly-installed officers were toasted, and suitably responded. The P.G.M. later addressed the meeting, and stated that ho was pleased to visit the lodge to renew old friendships and form new ones. Although the Outram Lodge was comparatively isolated, they were doing good work for the order. The P.G.M. referred to the matter of secessions, which was being dealt with by the committee appointed at the last district meeting, and the lodge would receive notice in due course of its proceedings. He congratulated the newly-installed officers, and extended best wishes for the progress of their lodge. P.P.G.M. Bro. Johnston also spoke, and made reference to the work of keeping in touch with and visiting sick members,' , which was one of their most important duties. He also conveyed greetings from the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge. Members of the various visiting lodge also ex-, tended best wishes and greetings from their lodges. At the. conclusion'of an interesting meeting the Outram brethren entertained the visitors nt supper. The half-yearly meeting of Loyal Caversham Juvenile Lodge was well attended by members. Visiting brethren from the Loyal United, Prince of Wales, and Loyal Taicri Juvenile Lodges were welcomed, and also a number of adult brethren. The president of the Juvenile, Council, Bro. Irving, conducted the installation of the following officers:— N.G., Bro. Bennett; V.G., Bro. A.. Smith; G.M., Bro. Lcckie; warden, Bro. M’Kay; guardian, Bro. D. M'Coll. The Loyal Princess Mary Lodge held, its annual summoned meeting in the Lodge Hall, Porbnry Corner, on Tuesday evening, when there was a large attendance of members and Visiting brethren. The N.G., Sister Y. M‘Kay, presided. The P.G.M.,* Bro. P. Young, and P.C. Secretary Bro. J. Hopcraft, representing the District "Executive, tvcrc COl’dinlly welcomed. One proposition for membership was received. Owing to the holidays it was decided to hold the next meeting of the lodge on January 7, Under the summoned meeting, the principal business was the election of officers, which resulted as followsN.G., Sister Eaffills; V.G., Sister Bond; G.M., Sister M'Kay; E.S., Sister M‘Allen; warden, Sister Craig: vuardian, .Sister Giiliand. The installation was conducted by the P.G.M. and the Prov. C.Sec., a number of vsiting officers assisting. At the conclusion of the ceremony the newly installed officers were ’ onoured with the Oddfellows’ toast, and suitably responded. In acknowledging the toast of the District Executive, the P.G.M. congratulated the officers of the lodge on its progress, and acknowledged the great assistance given by the honorary members. At present the honorary members had no vote on certain matters connected with the management of the lodge, and this rule was one which was being revised by the special committee set up for the pur-

pose, It hoped to have the new rules ready to submit to the next district meeting. Bro. Hoperaft also expressed pleasure at being present, and paid a tribute to the good work of the ladies' lodge, extending best wishes from the District Executive. A number of business matters were then dealt with, and the usual toasts honoured, after which the ladies entertained members at supper. Before closing the N.G. extended the season h greetings to members and visitors.
