Dr Mary Russell (daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas H. Russell, Milburh), who for the past two years has been on ■ the resident medical staff of the Christchurch Hospital; has been appointed senior house surgeon at the hospital for a further term.
At the final meeting of the Circle Hill School'Jubilee Committee, the secretary (Mr George H. M‘Lean, schoolmaster) was presented *. with a 1 fountain pen by Mr.F, Young, on behalf of the committee, in recognition of- his energetic services towards ensuring the success of the jubilee celebrations.
Mrs E. Hart (Milton) and her two young children, who had booked their passages by the ill-fated steamer Manuka from .Dunedin to Melbourne, en route for Sydney, ’bn a' holiday visit, left by this morning’s express for Lyttelton to connect, with the Maunganui at Wellington direct for Sydney.
HOSPITAL CASES,

A man named‘Alfred Thomson, a bachelor, residing- at North Branch, near Mil* ton, has been admitted to the local hospital suffering from-a severe gash-on the left arm, and indications point to the wound haying been ■ self-inflicted, Thomson, who lived-alone in a-two-roomed crib, was ■ discovered on his property by a neighbouring farmer, lying in a state of almost complete collapse from .the serious loss of blood. First, aid .was rendered, and he was conveyed ’to • the hospital. Through the- : capsizihg of, a motor car near Clarendon, -a. man. named Alexander Ingles has been .admitted to Milton Hospital suffering'from'injuries’ to' the arms and face,. Mr-Ingles, accidentally, placed his foot on the accelerator;!the car running, into a bank on the 1 side of the road and . capsizing, CRICKET. ...
The; second round of the South Otago Association’s shield matches will he continued on Saturday afternoon. Milton A team will play Balclutha B on the latter’s ground Milton B will receive a visit from Stirling team; Milburn has the bye. In the Southern division Waiwera will play Clutha Valley at Clydevale; Owaka Clinton at Owaka; Balclutha A has the'bye.
