RECORD CUSTOMS DUTIES. STRIKING ANOMALIES. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, December 13. (Received Dec. 15, at 5.5 p.m.) The new tariff anomalies produced what are believed to be record customs duties. A city firm which imports scientific glassware had to pay £375 duty on a consignment to cover glasses valued at £4O, the duty thus amounting to 900 per cent. On a lot of microscopic slides valued at £35, the sum of £132 in duty had to be paid.
