WRESTLING

JOHANSSON v. VANCE. The Dunedin public has been fortunate of late in being accorded the opportunity of seeing in action some of the greatest wrestlers in the world, but it is doubtful if two more spectacular men than Farmer Vance and Wal Johansson could be brought together in New Zealand at the present time, and both are wrestlers with imposing records.. Vance is the light-heavy-weight champion of Canada, and one of the strongest men of his division in the world, as may be gleaned from the fact that he held the heavy-weight championship of Canada for some time in addition to his present title. Johansson is a tough wrestler, and is the light-heavy-weight champion of Finland. , He is a wonderfully powerful and skilful wrestler, and the contest between him and Vance should be one of 'the best that has been seen in New Zealand in recent years. The Otago Wrestling Association is to be commended on its enterprise in staging a thirl match in three weeks. Last Saturday’s contest has made the public eager for more wrestling, and .to-morrow’s match, to be held at the Drill Hall,'should be eminently satisfying in, the way of actions, thrills, and sensations. It will be preceded by attractive amateur preliminaries in which the contestants will include the clever local amateur, T. Walker, jun., one of the best of his weight in New Zealand. Mr W. Coughlan will be the referee, and those who have seen the way he has controlled recent contests will feel satisfied that a fast and willing match is certain.
