LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION. Mr P. Mulligan presided at a meeting of the North Otago Lawn Tennis Association. when it was decided that the North Otago ladder be open to all challenges until December 7, and that it be closed down from December 14 to January 14. It was agreed to offer all possible assistance to a tourney to be held by tlje WaipOa Sub-association. It was decided to invite the Country Sub-association to play a North Otago team before Christmas at Kurow., It was agreed that there be one round in both the senior and junior grades, and that the four leading teams in the senior play off. Arrangements were made for the tournament to be held on December 25, 26, and 27, and Messrs }\. Fnmilton, Mollison, and Mulligan were appointed handicappers, entries to close on December 14, Accounts amounting to £1 3s 2d were passed for payment. ■ BUILDING ALTERATIONS, In addition to the large new buildings at the Oamaru Hospital and Hedcastle in the course _of erection and nearing com•plction. builders have been active in the business_ areas in remodelling and renovating business premises. The building in Itchen street formerly occupied by Mr George Snadden, and which is reputed to be 58 years old. has been completely remodelled! to furnish modern offices and storeroom for Messrs Stringer and Co., who are shortly to vacate their Tyne street premises. A modern architect's office is also provided in the building for Mr W. J. C. Steenson, late Messrs Forrester and Steenson, who is also removing from Tyne street. The alterations cost about £IOOO. the structural work being carried out in Oamaru stone, of which the building was originally built. Messrs Begg and Co. have also modernised their shop in Thames street, everything being fitted out in tasteful design for the convenience of customers, including gramophone and player piano parlours and a radio department. DUNTROON BALL. The spinsters and bachelors of Duntroon held their annual ball in the Duntroon Hall on Thursday evening. The hall was gaily decorated, and a large crowd was present from all the surrounding districts. Excellent music was supplied by Rae’s orchestra, while extras were played by Miss F. Bewa. Mr H. Waters carried out the duties of M.C.

OBITUARY. Tire death occurred yesterday morning at Weston of Mr Benjamin Geen, at the age of 87 years, Mr Geen had lived in Oamaru for over 50 years, removing to Weston last year. He was born in Cornwall, England, and spent some years in Australia before coming to this country. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and of the Protestant Alliance. Ht was predeceased by Mrs Geen, who died in 1013, but is survived by four sons and seven daughters. OAMARU EGG CIRCLE. The annual meeting of the Oamaru Egg Circle was held in the Bungalow last evening, Mr H, Hall presiding over an attendance of about 25 members. The chairman reported on the action taken in respect to crates, and advised the meeting of the auctioneers' assurance of protecting the property of the circle. ine annual report and .balance sheet were adopted.
