FUNCTION AT AUSTRALIA HOUSE. LONDON, November 4. “ Australia resembles a flapper of 15,” said Mr Leitch (Agent-general for Victoria), who, with his wife, attended a reception at Australia House in honour of Archbishop and Mrs Head. “ Like a flapper, she wants everything of which she can think, and wants it immediately. I believe that she will develop into a fine woman.” He added that within two or three centuries Australia would become the centre of the Empire, because she could support a greater population than Britain. Sir George Fuller (Agent-general for New South Wales) endorsed Mr Leitch’s statements. .
Archbishop Head said that whether Australians liked or disliked him he believed they would like Mrs Head. He paid a warm tribute to the hospitality of Australians at Horae and in Britain, and he craved indulgence for any unintentional mistakes that he might make.
