The workers mentioned in this clause shall be deemed to be weekly workers, and no deduction shall bo made from their weekly wages except for absence through sickness, accident, default, or any other cause over which the employer has no control. Youths who have acquired three years’ experience with any employer party to this award at steel sash, lift, and grill work before reaching the age of 20 years may be employed between the ages of 20 and 21 years at the_ minimum rate of Is IOJd per hour. Youths who, on reaching the ago of 20 years, had less than three years’ experience at steel sash, lift, and grill work shall receive the minimum rate of Is IOJd per hour until they have acquired three years’ experience at =uch work. The following is the court’s decision in regard to the preference clause:— If any employer shall hereafter engage any worker coming within the scope of this award who shall not be a member of the union, and who shall not become a member thereof within 14 days after his engagement and remain such member, the employer shall dismiss such worker from Ins service if requested to do so by the union, provided there is then a member u union equally qualified to perform the particular work required to be done, and ready and willing to undertake the same. The provisions of this sub-clause relating to the dismissal of workers shall apply with equal effect to any worker coming within the scope of this award engaged since December 6, 1926, but before the coming force of this award, who is not a member of the union during the currency of this award. The provisions of this clause shall operate only if and so long ns the rules of the union shall permit any _ worker coming within the scope of this award of pood character and sober habits to become a member of the union, upon payment of an entrance fee not exceeding ss, upon n written application. without ballot or other election. and to continue a member upon payment of subsequent contributions not exceeding sixpence per week, and such fines as may be lawfully imposed on him for non-attendance without reasonable excuse at a specially colled meeting of the union, of which written notice has been given to him or sent to him by post at his last address as notified by him to the union, or for misconduct at a meeting of the union, or for being more than three months in arrear. without reasonable excuse. in his contribution to the union; Provided that tho maximum fine shall not exceed 2s Gd for non-attendance at a meeting of the union or for being in arrear with his contributions, and <1 for misconduct at a meeting of the union. Whenever an employer shall employ a worker who is not a member of the union he shall, within three days thereafter. give notice in writing of sTich employment to the secretary of the union. On request by the secretary of the union employers shall supply a list of names of their’ workers employed under the provisions of the award, but not oftener than once every three months. The award will come into force on November 18. 1929, and will remain in force until November 18, 1931.
