ANTE-DATING A LICENSE,

“ GOOD BUT STUPID ACT.”

(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 25. Lancelot Lewis John Eilers, a clerk in the employ of the City Corporation traffic office, was to-day committed to the Supreme Court for trial for allegedly forging and uttering,, a motor driver’s license by ante-dating it. Clifford James Thomas, for whom Eilers was alleged to have ante-dated the license because he was sorry for Thomas having been caught by the police when without a license, was similarly committed on a charge of forging and uttering the license. The magistrate (Mr E. Page) said: 'tit does seem to have been a good and stupid act on the part of Eilers to assist some one else.”

Police 'suspicions as to the validity of the license were aroused when it was noticed that though the license was dated September 7 the receipt for it was dated September 9. Bail was allowed at £25.
