FIRES.
OUTBREAK; IN TIMBER YARD. ; (Peb United Press Association.) A fire at C. H. Franklin's timber yard at Newmarket at 8.30 last night assumed : dangerous proportions, and caused an interruption in the railway service, including the Limited Express. The yard was heavily stocked with timber. The brigade got the . blaze under control, though damage of several hundreds* of pounds was caused., HOTEL DESTROYED. ' v (Per United Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, September 25./ The Rapahoe Hotel, near Greymouth, was destroyed by fire early this morning. A passing motorist saw the flames, and, entering the hotel, found all 12 residents asleep and unaware of the outbreak. No water was available, and little or nothing \tas saved. ' The licensee was Mr Jack Doyle, and the building was owned by Mr R. Poschich. The .insurance on Doyle’s stock was £4OO. j HOUSE DESTROYED AT WAITARA. SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, September 25. The fourth mysterious fire in Waitara within a month occurred in the early hours of this morning, when - the house of Mr D. I George was destroyed. In the previous fires suspicions were aroused and in this case it is stated that the floors of all the rooms were ablaze simultaneously, The house was covered by insurance. '• A LOCAL CALL. The Central Fire Brigade answered a call at 11.23 a.m. yesterday to the premises of the Dunedin Tyre Company in Hanover street, where a fire had been caused by a boy upsetting some vulcanising solution. The outbreak was extinguished before any damage was done!
