CRITICISM OF AN ACCOUNT.

VERIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, August 19. Criticism of the action of the Auckland Power Board in protesting against the charges made for the perusal'and verification of certain documents was contained in a letter from a firm of Wellington solicitors read at the meeting of the board to-day in acknowledging payment of an account of £368 14a 9d, The firm, Messrs Chapman, Tripp, Cooke, and Watson,' said it was aware that the board considered that the charge was unreasonably high, and it was on that ground that, the firm stated it would be happy to have the account referred to the registrar of the Supreme Court for his taxation. "Instead of adopting this course," the letter concluded, "the board adopted a course which, in the circumstances, we think wee as unfair to ourselves as it was useless to the board.” “ The attitude of the board has achieved ita purpose all the same,” remarked Mr Clark. On the motion of the chairman, the letter was received. The account was for perusing and verifying documents relating to the raising by the board of a loan from the Australian Mutual Provident Society.
