Sheppard, A. Barclay, D. M'Carthy, P. H. Francis. Emergencies: J. B. Bibby and L. S. Sinclair. CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP. THE OTAGO TEAM. The selectors (Messrs J. Beatson, R. Thompson, and C. W. Clark) have selected the following to represent Otago in the New Zealand Cross-country Championship at Wingatui on August 31;—J. J. Morris (Caversham), E. J. Johnston (Pacific), J. W. Tapp (Caversham), E. C. Brown (Civil Service), L. W. Logan (University), and C. W. Frye (Caversham). Emergencies, J. Don (University) and J. H. M'Laren (Pacific). M’GLASHAN COLLEGE CROSSCOUNTRY RUN. The John M'Glashan College held its annual cross-country run yesterday 75 boys completing the course. A. Sutherland (smin) was first home, 40 yards ahead of S. Campbell (6min). B. Stevenson, from scratch, recorded the fastest time, and thus won the Greenslade Cup for the second time. His time was very good, being lOmin 17sec, breaking the existing record held by T. E. Caffoll since 1823. by just over a minute. GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL. The Otago Girls’ High School hockev, basket ball, and netball teams travelled to Ashburton on Friday last to contest with the Ashburton High School. The matches were played at the Domain on Saturday morning. At the first half of the hockey match the score was I—nil in Otago’s favour. In the second half the Ashburton forwards shot two goals. After an exciting half the Otago team netted the second goal at the final whistle. The game ended in a draw, two all. Goals were shot for Ashburton by E. Jary and M. Bushell, ami for Otago by R. Hunt and E. Banwell. The strong wind spoilt the basket ball match, which resulted in a win for Otago. 7 —nil. This netball match was played at the school grounds on Monday morning under more favourable conditions. The score was:—Otago 21, Ashburton 10. The Otago team was very hospitably entertained by the Ashburton girls.
