AWARDS FOR BRAVERY.

ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY.' (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. August 10. The following awards for bravery were made by the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand: —■ Silver Medal.—Arthur John Skelton, nurseryman, Helensville, attempting to save J. C. Rimmer from attack by a bull on July 10, 1929. Bronze Medal.—Charles Laxton, traveller, Hillaborough,_ rescuing Walter Wilkins from drowning at Opotiki on December 9, 1928. Bronze Medal.—Cyril Vincent Mills. Plinunerton, attempting to rescue Newborn King and James ivlasterton, and for rescuing four other men from drowning in the Pnrematn Harbour on December 30, 1928. Letter of Commendation.—Sydney Reid, for rescuing Thomas Welsh from death in a. landslip caused by the earthquake at Now ton Flat, Bailer Gorge, on June 17._ 1020. No award was made in the case of Laurie Walkley, Palmerston North, who rescued from" drowning Joy Williams and Francis Martin, in the Manawatn Gorge on January 12, 1928. The rules of the society provide that applications foy recognition of acts of bravery must be niade within 12 mouths, aud this application was made too late. It was agreed to .forward a letter expressing the society’s high appreciation of Mr Walkley’e act.
