PACIFIC v. ATHLETIC

, Pacific secured an easy win from Athletic on the Oval. The game, which was not of an interesting nature, was dominated by the Pacific back division from start to finish. In the opening stages Pacific was. prominent in forward rushes, gaining a lot of ground. Athletic stemmed the tide, and play hovered at halfway for some time. The Pacific backs then took a hand, Blazey making a strong run almost to Athletic's line, where he cross kicked, and Te An forced. Immediately afterwards Luskic accepted a pass from Blazey, and went over to score wide out. The try was not converted. A strong rush by the Athletic forwards removed play to Pacific’s twenty-five, but the north-end men were quickly sent hack. After some up and down play, Lagan broke away. Blazey secured possession past hallway, and making a strong run evaded several opponents to score behind the posts, Blazey failed with an easy kick at goal. A fine passing movement by. the Pacific backs, started by Blazey., ended in A. Luskic scoring an easy try under the posts, which he converted. Athletic showed to advantage for sonic minutes, and after some strenuous scrum work and close play near Pacific’s line, J. Hunt pushed his way over. Stewart was unfortunate with the kick, the ball striking one of the posts. The scores at half time were: Pacific 11 points, Athletic 3 points.

A strong rush by Pacific after the game was resumed carried play to Athletic’s twenty-five, where Loo followed up fast and scored wide out, Blazey failed with the kick. Pacific continued to hold the upper hand, the passing movements by the backs keeping Athletic on the defensive for some time. The next incident of note was a fine break away by Blazey from halfway. He evaded three or four opponents, and thou passed to Butler, who scored near the corner. The try was not converted. A few minutes later Blazey sent his backs away from Pacific’s twentyfive. The ball eventually came out to Lagan, who went over to score. Luskie converted. Another passing movement by the Pacific backs ended in A, Luskie scornig a try which Bryan converted. Towards the close of the game Lagan scored a good try by following up fast, Dec adding the extra points. Another try was scored by Dee in the closing stages, A. Luskie converting.
