HARRIERS.

CARGILL ROAD. The Cargill Rond Methodist Harriers held their Five-mile Championship and Sealed Handicap Race at Forbury Park. The weather was line, but the going was heavy. The course lay twice around the park, thence albng Lovers' lane to St. Hilda, back past the park, returning along the lane, then to Forbury and around ‘the track. On going out of the park, L. M'Koich was leading from MTncloe and Kockliffe, with the rest following at intervals. On entering the park, this order was still maintained. M'Kiecli won by a fair margin. MTndoe was second and Rocklilfo third. Tile Sealed Handicap was won by H. Ridley, with R, Kockliffe second. Time, 27min 20sec. • ST. HILDA. The above club hold its annual Fourmile Championship and Sealed Handicap Race from Forbury Park over a course from the southern gate to the Esplanade, back along "Victoria road to Moreau street, and then into Lovers’ lane, which was followed to Tahuna Park. Here thecourse led back on to Victoria road and along to Cavell street, which was followed to How on street and back to Forbury Park. Seventeen members faced the starter, the result being: C. Pope 1. J. Delaney 2, S. Asher 3, J. Auld 4. I. Still, and D. Robertson were first and second respectively in the Scaled Handicap. ST. PATRICK'S. St. Clair Baths was the rendezvous of the St. Patrick’s Harriers, a large muster following a good trail laid by R, Baughen and A. Hogan. The trail led up Chit road and almost to Cargill’s Castle, v, liei e it skirted *tlie goH* links and ncross very sodden country to the Main South road. After a few miles on the road, country was again traversed back to the baths. The pack, in the absence of the captain and deputy-captain, was under the control of Acting-captain M‘Donnell, and throughout the run the members were u ell bunched, although there is a tendency for some of fhc more inexperienced runners to try to got in front of the whistle, the run home was very willing, and resulted in the club champion, Airey, leading the rest homo. In the evening members and friends held a social evening at Cargill s Castle. ANGLICAN. pJil® An ” lica « Club held its Five-mile Cross-country Championship at Wingatui on Saturday. A course which embraced a considerable amount of hill work was laid out. It led over the sod wall to the road, up the hi.l, skirted a gorse hedge, and finally came up to the water race. ri? 1 thp/.'e course, led round the crest ot the hill to the point where, it doubled back to the racecourse. This was followed a second time, and Airshed at the end of the straight. Despite the fact that the ground was very heavy owing to the recent rains, excellent time was recorded by the winner. A good field faced the starter (Mr W. N. Connell), who got the runners away in good style. The • first time past the post the order was Stewart, Holmes, Price, Gale, and Russell. On leaching the hill, Russell displaced Holmes, but Stewart drew away and finished in the excellent time of’SSmin 40sec, Price being second in 40min 13sec, closely followed by Russell, whose time was 40niin losec. Next came Holmes, Ga'c, Provo, and Mitchell. The winner of the Sealed Handicap was J. Mitchell. CAVERSHAM. The Caversham Harriers held their weekly run from the Upper Junction School,, a very satisfactory attendance of 4t) members following a good trail, for “which C. Cameron anti J. A., Pearce were responsible. The trail led along the road to Mount Cargill, then branched off across the paddocks and continued on toward the summit for about a mile". The trail then doubled back through some thick native bush, which was responsible for the hares getting a good lead on the packs. The paper then led down in the direction of Port Chalmers, over some good harrier country above Sawyers’ Bay, and gradually turned till the Main North road was reached. From there a good steady pace was maintained for about two miles, J. Tapp showing his superiority in the run home. V. Leader and G. Hebbard finished second and third respectively, the rest of the pack being well bunched. HANOVER BAPTIST.

The Hanover Baptist Club’s first sports meeting took place at Forbury Park on Saturday afternoon in the presence of a good attendance. There were to be four events, but owing to the state of the ground two were cancelled. In the first event —the 100 Yards—it was thought best to run the race on the grass in front of the grand stand, and not on the usual track at all. A large number of members faced the starter, the Rev. E. S. Tuekwell. The results were as follow: G. Austin (2yds). 1. C. K. Smith (scr) 2, and H. Rishworth (9yds) 3. Austin won by a foot from Smith. Time 10 2-ssec. The second event for the afternoon was the 880 Yards Race. The track was very slippery, and only those who had running shoes did any good. The results were as follow;—A. Kay (3yds) 1, H. Hayward (ser) 2, C, Stewart (40yds) 3, and D. Thompson (16yds) 4. The winner got a good lead on Hayward in the finish. Time, 2min 19see. Both times were good considering the state of the track. The High and Broad Jumps were postponed till August 10, when the second sports meeting will be held. On Saturday next the run will take place from Maori Hill Coronation Hall to be followed by the club dinner. LEITH. The Leith Club held its Five-mile Championship and Sealed Handicap Race at Wingatui. A fair field faced the starter (Mr J. Peterson). A cross-country trail was followed. On passing the course for the first time round the leading six men were all bunched, Parker leading, followed by Ward. Masters, King, Peterson, Watson, and Cnmings. On entering the course for the final 500 yards Parker led Masters by about 15 yards, but Masters overhauled him in the straight to win by 30 yards. Ward being 100 yards further back. Results: —Masters 1, Parker 2, Ward 3. The Sealed Handicap resulted; —S. King I. 11. Masters 2, S. Parker 3.
