OTAGO HUNT CLUB.
MEET AT WINGATUI. Under much improved weather' conditions, the Otago Hunt Club held a most successful and enjoyable meet at Wingatui on Saturday afternoon. There was, as usual, a good turnout of followers, and quite a fair attendance of spectators witnessed the jumping from Gladstone road, from which an excellent view was obtained. The run was held over the wellknown properly of Mr W. G. Renwick, and extended over, a distance of about two and a-half miles of his property, there being 14 good jumps, consisting of gorse and hawthorn hedges, post and rails, and road doubles. The ground was very soft and slippery, after the continual rain early in the week, and several of the takeoffs and landings on that account were very bad, which made it difficult for the riders but provided a splendid test of horsemanship. During the run spills were numerous, but, fortunately, neither the riders nor the horses were hurt. Considering the elate'of the going, the jumping was very good. The followirg horses were out putting in a qualification run in view of - competing in the hunters’ events at the club’s steeplechase meeting in September:—Relic, Toa Tana, Andy, De Cruse, Trahoo, Cultivator, Koromata, and Rag Tag. A qualification run will be held at “ Sea View,” Green Island, on /Wednesday. Among those following were;—The master (Mr J. N. Murdoch) on Toi Toi, de-puty-master (Mr H. S. Jones) on Tornado, huntsman (F. Kydd) on John Feel, whip (D. O’Connell) on Gold Cup. Mrs J M‘Kay on Lucky, Miss Z. Rutherford on Kismet, Miss M, Statham on Red Rata, Miss, E.
