CLAY BIRD SHOOTING.
SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. The South Island Clay Bird Championship was held in Timarn on Friday. .There were a fair number of shooters present, and the match was shot off under difficulties. The club grounds were flooded and the matches had to be shot on a nearby ground. The day was dry overhead, but rather damp under foot; but the shooters made the best of a bad job, and some very good shooting resulted. In the first match, a £SO match for 17 birds, four competitors shot all their birds and divided the stake. They were G. E. Turner, of Dunedin; and J. Little, R. E. MTUwrick and D. Stowell, all of Timaru. The next match was the South Island Championship for 21 birdiv This was a very keenly contested match. Thirty shooters lined up on the- 18-yard mark, and some very fine shooting was witnessed. Mr L. Kerr, of Rangiora, and Mr E. P, Graham, of Dunedin, shot their 21 birds, and divided the first and ‘second money. In the_ shootoff for the medal and championship, L. Kerr was successful, Graham losing his fifth bird. Messrs R. E. M’lllwrick and G. E.'Turner tied for third money with 19 kills. Mr W. Stevens, the president of the South Canterbury Guff Club, was referee for both matches.
