HONOURED BY UNIVERSITY. PRESENTATION OF MEDAL. (United Preaa Associations (By Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) NEW YORK, May 6. (Received May 0, at 11 p.m.) Mr A 1 Smith, the former Governor, received the Laetare Medal from the University of Notre Dame as an American lay Roman Catholic whose achievements in some special field brought glory to the Roman Catholic faith. There was a brilliant assemblage of prominent personages. in. business, religious, social, and political groups, who witnessed the presentation of the medal by Cardinal Hayes at the Notre Dame Club. A letter from President Hoover was read, in which he said that Mr Smith xyas “a distinguished American and a great public servant.”—Australian Press Association.
