THE MANIOTOTO HOSPITAL.

MINISTERIAL STATEMENT. Mr W. A. -Bodkin, M.P. for Central Otago, yesterday received a telegram in the following terms from the Minister of Health (Mr A. J. Stallworthy), a copy of the telegram being sent also to the chairman of the Maniototo Hospital Board (Mr H. W. Davis): — * “Re Eanfurly Hospital. Re your telegram conveying request from residents of Naseby that injunction should ho issued against Maniototo Hospital Board dealing with • tenders at next meeting, it is not the fault of the hoard that tenders were not dealt with prior to this last meeting. Delay was previously caused by department which I was asked to. remedy. The proposed work has been carefully and thoroughly considered both by the Hospital Board and the Health Department. For some time past authority has been given for the payment of subsidy on bequests received and the other . money raised locally for the work. The plans have been approved, and I regret that I cannot see any good reason for interference by the department -in the matter. Indeed, quite the contrary. I might add that ' it is extremely doubtful whether the department would subsidise the renovation of the existing hospital. The members of the’ hospital boards in the Dominion comp, ise very earnest and capable bodies, giving valuable co-operation to the Health Department, Their work and local authority must be respected. lam sure the Maniototo Board., may be relied upon to -do justly.” '
