, The many \vh6 are interested in art would do well to visit the upstairs department of Messrs Park, Reynolds'; Ltd., and ste a very attractive collection of-close on 50 paintings, most of which, are water colours, by the well-known artist Mr Frank Brookesmith, F.N.B.A. Practically all the wprks lin’ the collection are of scenes land, chiefly 11 the former): noth Ari ’Add English scene included! .The tugged beauty of Otago’s mountains, with their lovely lakes, fringed- with trefes/ leiidß itself admirably '’to' reproduction by .'g: skilled hand, and soffie very beautiful scenes are to be met with in the collection. The artist’s eye , has - evidently caught many of the beauty spots,.'and these have been' faithfully and cleverly transferred to paper -or ’canvass, as' the case may be. Indeed, it is hardly necessary to say, that, since Mr firookesinith’a works have always been acknowledged to be of a very high'order, and have been widely admired. Amongst the top row are several notably yvcll-csecitted pictures) and one; of - a - is the Head of Wakatipu, hot far from Where the Rees River enters the lake.' Another striking picture is the " Cleddau River,” from the Milford track, and “ Sinbad Valley,” hi the stiuie Vicinity, will arrest- attention/ A painting Of “ Lake Wanaka ” is done in Mr Brookesmith’s best' style, and “I)dubtful Sound ” should -be ambngst to catch the -eye'of anyone'bf artistic tempefament. These are, howevfer,; only a few of many paintings in the collection that might be Specially mentioned! One thing that can scarcely escape notice is the f naturalness ,of tjje colouring in practically every instance. ; There i* nothing approaching a! too vivid,’ tbp bright, colouring such as is sometimes met \rith, and apparently' introduced \yith the object of producing fi fairylike scene.
