HOCKEY.

SATURDAY’S MATCHES. ALBANY v. UNIVERSITY A. Weather and playing conditions were excellent on Saturday afternoon for hockey, and the game between Albany and University A proved a spectacular meeting. The match was played on Oval No. 1, and the Reds made the play in the majority of the exchanges. From the opening bully Albany got the ball, but University secured and attached, a twenty-five resulting. An Albany attack was cleared, and the Blues made a strong effort which broke down through an infringement. University again attacked, gaining a comer. The Reds then took the offensive to gain two corners and a twenty-five. Up-and-down play* followed for a time, neither side being able to gain a decisive advantage. An Albany attack was almost successful, a fast shot striking the upright, and another University attack gave the Blues a corner, and a free hit to Albany presented an opening. • Tyler scored. Albany made the play from the bully and continued to attack, the University goal-keeper saving well. The Blues then broke away strongly, but a counter-attack by Albany saw Baxter send in a fast ball to score. Both sides attacked in turn, University making determined attempts upon the Reds’ defence, but without being able to score. Half time was then called. On the resumption of play, Albany went through to gain a twenty-five. University set up an attack, only a corner resulting. Albany attacked Strongly and netted twice, both goals being' disallowed, and University took play back to the other end of the field. A twenty-five was the only result, Play continued up and down the field for a time, the ball going from one circle to the other in quick succession. Prom one of these movements Rennick succeeded in scoring. Play again became up and down, and within a few minutes of time, from a scramble before University’s goal, Morris netted again for AL bany. After a few more exchanges time was called with the scores Albany .. 4 goals. University A .... Nil. Mr A. Chapman was referee. HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS v. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS. The game between High School Old Boys and Technical Old Boys was played on Oval No. 2 under excellent conditions, and resulted in a win for the Technical team after a hard struggle. From the bully, play went to High School’s territory, where Technical almost scored. School broke away, however, and took play to the other end of the field where it remained for some time. Once again on the offensive, Technical took the ball through to Schools circle, where a melee ensued from which Petherjck succeeded in scoring. Duckworth had no chf ace of saving. There was no further score before half time. The game became faster in the second spell, and good hockey was witnessed all through. A School attack saw Webber get the bail from a passing rush to go through the Technical defence and score with a good shot. Technical was losing chances through offaide play. With the scopes even, both teams were playing at their best, neither gaiijing much advantage for some time. Finally, L. Silver secured from a scramble in the School circle ind scored the winning goal, ‘lt w ae a fine shot from a hard angle. The game ended 'shortly after with the scores;—• Technical Old Boys , 2 goals. Technical Old Boys 3, High School 2. Technical College 8, Primary Schools ml. ■ LADIES’ GAMES. TRAINING COLLEGE v. TRIANGLE, The two top teams of last season contested a hard and fast game at Logan Park- College attacked from the start, but play returned to midfield. Good play by College halves let the forwards away and a shot found the pet. Play continued fast and keen, offside play losing both sides goals. College netted with a •■fast shot, and 35 minutes of fine play found College 1 up. Triangle pressed on the resumption, and had bard luck in not scoring. The backs were playing well, and kept the College forwards busy. College again scored, and from the halfway bully Triangle again attacked for some time. Give-and-take play followed, and College was awarded a comer, from which Miss Hopkinson scored a good goal. College continued to press, and gradually wore tire Triangle defence down. College held the upper hand during the last 10 minutes pf play, and won a very even and wellcontested game by 3 goals to nib Mr D. Miller was referee. UNIVERSITY A v. TAIERI. Taieri gave the Blue team a surprise in the first half at Logan Park," and both teams had one goal to their credit at half time. The second spell -was very well contested, but the Blue defence held, and their forwards, asserting themselves and playing well together, penetrated the Taieri defence on three occasions, and won a well-deserved victory by 4 goals to 1. Mr J. Gray was the referee. MOMONA v. GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL. The light High School team played a good combined game against the heavier Mom op a players. Miss H. Johnstone (goalie) again proved invaluable to her side, and her efforts kept the score down. Momona scored the winning goal just on time, and the game ended: Momona, 3 goals; Girls’ High, 2 goals, Mr Petheriek was referee. TECHNICAL OLD GIRLS v. KAIKORAL The game between Technical Old Girls and Kaikorai was not a good exhibition of hockey. Poor shooting by Technical kept the score down, many golden opportunities of scoring being missed. bliss Ireland was the pick of the Technical team. The match resulted: Technical Old Girls, 7 goalsKaikorai,. 1 goal. * Mr .1. Martyn was referee. OTAGO v. TRAINING COLLEGE 11. Otago met College H at Logan Park, and play was of a very even nature throughout. Otago made the play most of the time, but the College defence was sound enough to keen the Otago forwards at bay, for on three occasions only did the Black and White vanguard manage to score. An ovenlvcontested game resulted: Otago, 3- Collego, 11, nil. Mr R. Holden was referee.

EX-HIGH SCHOOL v. UNIVERSITY B. Flaying at Logan Park, Ex-High School proved too good for University B, who, however, made a good game of it. P]ay was very oven for the greater part .of the time, and the ex-High School players, gradually asserting their superiority, eventually ran out good winners. The final whistle left the result: Ex-High School, 7; University B, 2. Mr J, Robinson was referee. B 1 GRADE. Otago I 2, Triangle I nil. Momona I 1, Taieri I.
