FIRES.
OUTBREAK IN BUTTER FACTORY. (Per United Press Association.) STRATFORD, May 4. The packing room of the Stratford Dairy Company’s butter factory was destroyed by fire at an early hour this morning. The butter-making room was gutted, and much of the machinery- was badly damaged. The cheese factory is detached, and there will be no interruption in the manufacture of cheese. The damage is covered by insurance in the Phoenix office. The City Fire Brigade was called to the corner of Leckhampton court and Dacre street at 4.23 p.m. on Saturday to attend a gorse fire, and again at 5.30 the machines were summoned to Highgate in answer to a false alarm. “I OUGHT TO MEET THAT JOKER.” The man who looks after “Baxter’s” advertising was in Christchurch the other day. and had lunch with a very old friend at Warner’s Hotel. After having a chat, he mentioned that he had an appointment with Mr Baxter. “ Oh.” said his friend, “ I ought to meet -that joker. I have taken a lot of his stuff. You know I go away a good bit on fishing trips, and Baxter's Lung Preserver is one of the main items of my outfit. After a heavy day. with perhaps my feet getting damp and feeling a bit husky in the throat, 1 promptly take a dose of • Baxter’s.’ Just come here a minute. I want to show you something.” He took the ad-man over to his motor car, and opening the door showed' a large bottle of ‘ Baxter s ” in the pocket of his car. ‘ That’s what I think of ‘Baxter’s,’” he said. ■ , An occasional dose of \ this famous remedy will ward off colds, coughs, and all chest troubles. “ Baxter’s ” is well known throughout' the Dominion.
