HARRIERS.

ANGLICAN. The Anglican Harriers held their Onemile Novice Championship and Sealed Handicap for the Mouat Cup at Forbury o e i 1 0 / faced the starter (Mr E. S. Gale), who got them away in fine style. The first time past the post the order was Adkins. Fitchett, Rue- ■ sell, and Mitchell. This order was maintained till the end of the back straight, when C. E. Smith and H. W; M. Smith moved up, making - the ■ pace a cracker. Coming into the home stretch Russell took the lead, closely followed by Bobertson and C. E, Smith, Though vigorously challenged by Robertson and -. Smith, Russell Maintained his lead, and the result was:—— J. A. Russell I. W. Robertson 2, C. E. Smiths. Time, Smin 30sec. The winner of the Sealed Handicap was I.Fitchett. The ■ thanks of the club are due to the Forbury. Park Trotting Club for the use of the • ■track. Afterwards. the dub held a run from Forbury Park. Paper was dispensed w-ith. and the pack, under the whistles of Captain Gale and Deputy Captain ProVo, ran up to the golf links and over some good .harrier country, finally return- . ing via Cargill’s Castle and St. Clair. PATRICK’S,' Twelve, runners faced the starter in the St. Patrick’s Harrier One-mile Maiden Handicap at Forbury Park. The track was very soft, and'‘made fast times out of the question. The men on the front marks made the pace solid at the start, but lack of-training made'two give'np. R. Carvalho took the lead after about three furlongs, and kept it till-bear the end, but J. W. Bradley and N. M'Qettigan, who had be.en lying handy, came : with good finishes, Bradley finishing with about 15 yards to spare from M'Gettigan, . with Carvalho five yards further back. ' Result:—J. The Abbotsford Methodist Harriers ran. J from the Fairfield Methodist Church. The-- ' hares—G. Fincham and W; Buchanan —;■ led a satisfactory trail through. the •scrub and undergrowth on the Chain Hills, then back on to the Main road to Saddle Hill, then through some paddocks in an easterly direction on to the Jubilee coal mine, thence on to the old Brighton road, and ■ home. In. the run home R. Knox and L. Martin were first'and second respectively in the, fast pack, and in the ’slow pack I. Brown was first and R. Orange second. The' main pack was controlled by Captain, R. Knox. CARGILL ROAD. The Cargill Road\ Harriers held their run from the Mornington Church, The pack, under the .whistles of R. M'lndoe and P. Wellington/led up Galloway'street over to Kaikorai, thence via Mount Grande,, then across country to' the Southern reservoir. The trail led np to Lookout Point; from where _ a fast run home resulted in. ‘S. M*Kcich and R.. M'lndoe leading. . : ‘ NORTHERN. ‘ The Northern? Club held - its weekly l run from Glenaven Church., There was a"good muster, under the-whistles of Captain J. Dunn and ■ Deputy-captain F. Cowley. The turn-out included several new members. The hares —6. Turner and;: V. Trochbn—laid an excellent trail—the ' best so far this season. The trail was .. laid along the Valley road to the’Normanby terminus, thence halfway up the Brown House’, road, where the trail - , branched off up a steep climb towards the £ trig station. The run; down the other •- side of the hill into Ravensbourne con- / sister of much bush.-and bramble,-but;in,' Ravensbourne itself the trail was good running. In the lead up. the hill to ■ Stoney and over to -Palmer’s quarry, ?. thence up Union street, along Leith street, through the Gardens, and home. - The run home resulted in Strong being ,o first, followed closely by K. Overhead conditions were of the !‘ best; but the ground was in a bad state, ; and thus fast times were out’.of the ques- I tion. A field of nine went to the .post * in the Cycle Race, and competitors were / bunched throughout. In a torrid finish / A, Farmer (7eec) had the better of <v “Charlie” Lucas (scr.) by a length, while H. Cooper beat W, Templeton by ; ; inches on the post.. Conroy and Rennie /!; met with mishaps and were well behind - :- • at the finish. ■ a!.The Novice. Race attracted a field of / a dozen. During the first portion of the journey S. Gibson, Hobbs, Jones, Potbury, and Farmer held the front positions. Going round the back for the last time E. t Hobbs (20sec) h’ad a good lead from A. \ Potbury (20sec), with the scratch men— -vT. Whaley and C. Henry—making Up a / lot of ground. Hobbs still led into' the straight,- but Henry (scr.) and Jones ,? (20sec) then sprinted np the last hundred, - and in a splendid finish the scratch man / beat Joneg by about three yards, with •£. Hobbs next, five yards in front of Whaley ; (scr.).
