The amount of the fine to be inflicted would depend on the amount of work done in the meantime. SHOOTING. The shooting season opened in dry and windy weather, with the result that the local shootists, who were more numerous than in recent years, enjoyed good sport on Tapanui Flat. In most eases limit bags were obtained. So far as could be learned, sportsmen in the outlying districts were not so successful, the birds being very wild. In some places poachers had been out before the opening of the season.
