BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS.
(From Oun Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, May 3. TROUBLE AT FREEZING WORKS. Trouble developed amongst the butchers at the Fingand freezing works yesterday through certain men being taken off the slaughter board and detailed to kill pigs. There arose a difference of opinion as to who should kill the pigs. Two men were given their time, and then the whole board of butchers struck, and the works- were held up for two hours. Better counsels prevailed, however, and the men resumed and were at work to-day, as usual. It is stated there is Tittle likelihood of further trouble. LACK OF AUDIENCES. Candidates who are going to pains in addressing meetings of ratepayers are finding it difficult at times to secure an audience. This was particularly emphasised last night at Stirling, when three candidates for the South Otago Hospital Board journeyed from Milton to address the electors. The latter, however, were consnicuous by their absence, the only other persona present besides the three candidates being the chairman and a well-known figure in local politics.
