TOO MUCH LIQUOR CONSUMED. CHARGE OF ASSAULT FOLLOWS. (Per 'United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., May 3. The sequel to an episode of the night of March 31 took place, in court this morning, when’ Lionel Clifford Nimmo, aged 20, was charged with common assault, a local domestic being the victim. The original charge was indecent assault, and it was reduced on counsel’s application. The accused pleaded guilty. The police statement was that a party of young people had been celebrating, and all had got considerably the worse for liquor. Apparently there were faults on both sides. Counsel for the accused said the latter pleaded guilty to avoid publicity to the parties concerned. The accused had borne a good character. ' The. magistrate refused counsel’s suggestion to impose a nominal penalty, and fined Nimmo £5 and costs. An application for suppression of hig name was refused.
