TRANSPORT BOARD.

THE CHAIRMAN’S STATUS.. (Pub United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 2. Consequent on Mr J. A. C. Allum being defeated in the City Council election a question arises as to his position as chairman of the Transport Board. The legal position appears to be that within a certain period after its election the City Council has power under the Transport Act, to appoint anyone to the Transport Board, whether he is on the council or not, and the council may change its representatives at any time up to May, 1931, on the first Wednesday of which the board becomes elective under the municipal franchise.

.In the _ meantime Mr Allum declares his intention of carrying on until the new City Council has an opportunity of considering the matter.
